What we are doing and why

Starting as early as late May, crews will begin replacing the existing chain link fences and splash guards near Wilson and Yorkdale stations. In particular, work will take place on the west side of the subway line (southbound Allen Road) north and south of Wilson Station, and north of Yorkdale Station – see maps for reference.

The existing chain link fences are worn and deteriorating. The work is required to ensure that the fences, which safely isolate and shield subway infrastructure, are in a state of good repair. In 2020, the fences on the east side of Wilson Station were replaced.

Expected work activities

Work will involve cutting/minor excavation to remove existing fencing, drilling into concrete for new fence posts, and pouring new concrete.

While measures will be taken to minimize noise during work hours, noise will be apparent when some equipment is in full operation.

Work hours

For safety, work can only be conducted overnight when traffic level is low - from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.

Traffic details

After 11 p.m. nightly, there will be temporary shoulder and lane closures on Allen Road through the work areas. A minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Thank you for your patience while we work to make these important repairs.
