As part of the TTC’s commitment to safety and modernization, College Station (Line 1) will be getting a new second exit/entrance, and elevators to improve customer safety, accessibility and convenience. Construction is expected to begin in late 2020.

This work will include:

  • The construction of a new concourse south of the existing concourse.
  • The new concourse will combine new elevators and a second exit through College Park.

What to expect:

  • The work zone will be set up on Yonge Street, south of College Street.
  • Work to be completed in stages to reduce impact on local area, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
  • Temporary road decking will be installed to maintain sidewalks and one lane of traffic in each direction through the Yonge/College intersection.
  • Subway service planned to run throughout construction.

Stage 1: Preparatory Works & Median Removal

In order to maintain sidewalk access and one lane of traffic in each direction throughout construction, Yonge Street will need to be widened (Stage 1A) and the centre median removed (Stage 1B).

Stage 1A will commence on November 23, 2020 (duration: approx. 6 weeks)

A work zone will be set up in the existing northbound curb lane and occupy a portion of the existing sidewalk. Hoarding will be installed to create a safe work zone.

Work activities will include:

  • Installation of hoarding/barriers and traffic control
  • Hydro pole removal and utility relocation work
  • Removal of street furniture and trees within the work zone
  • Partial sidewalk removal – 1.8m of sidewalk will be maintained during this work

Pedestrian and Vehicular Access:

  • Access to local businesses and sidewalks on the east side of Yonge Street will be maintained at all times.
  • One northbound lane will be maintained at all times.

Stage 1B: Median removal (for approx. 8 weeks)

Following the completion of Stage 1A, the centre median on Yonge Street will be removed. Hoarding will be installed to create a safe work zone.

Work activities will include:

  • Installation of hoarding/barriers and traffic control
  • Removal of the centre median, including any street furniture and trees within the work zone

Pedestrian and Vehicular Access:

  • One lane of traffic in each direction on Yonge Street will be maintained at all times.
